A look at the first editions of the UK papers

The conviction of Vincent Tabak for the murder of Jo Yeates in Bristol is the lead story in most of Saturday's papers.

Her parents' words, "Tabak can rot in hell", is the Daily Telegraph's headline, while the Daily Express says: "Shame we can't hang her killer".

The Sun focuses on Tabak's use of pornographic websites depicting women being strangled which, the Daily Mail points out, the jury was unaware of.

Meanwhile, both the Daily Mirror and Telegraph say police fear he may have killed others.

The Guardian reports that a huge increase in state funding of political parties is being proposed by a government-commissioned inquiry.

Funding worth up to £100m over a five-year parliament would be shared, based on general election votes received.

Meanwhile, the Times claims to have seen a witness statement by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

It says he paid his "political godfather" Boris Berezovsky £1bn a decade ago to sever their ties.

The Financial Times reports that Italy's borrowing costs have risen to their highest level since the creation of the single currency.

The paper believes it is a sign that EU governments have failed to regain the confidence of financial markets.

The Daily Telegraph says the eurozone financial package agreed just days ago is a "sticking plaster solution".

It says it does not address underlying causes of the crisis and only provides mild relief for the symptoms.

A report of a survey published in the Daily Mail suggests Britons are overwhelmingly in favour of clawing back a raft of powers from Brussels.

But the Daily Express is sceptical about the prospects for change.

Steve Richards, writing in the Independent, says Britain is charging towards indiscriminate Euroscepticism at an alarming speed.

He argues that the country is more estranged from the European Union than at any point since it joined.
