George Groves stuns Paul Smith in second round at Wembley
George Groves Groves is targeting another fight by Christmas after his rapid-fire win over Smith
George Groves defended his British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles with a second-round knockout of Paul Smith at Wembley Arena.
Groves was visibly unhappy with his first-round showing, but stormed back in the second round with a devastating series of punches.
He finished the contest clinically with a superb right hook.
The 23-year-old, London-born boxer said: "It was about using my sharp, front foot and my jab."
He added: "I am maturing and hitting harder. These guys are getting bashed up pretty quick."
David Haye, Groves' mentor, friend and former training partner and promoter, said: "I was over the moon, ecstatic. He's starting to do what he does in the gym in the ring.
"Paul Smith is a durable fighter but you saw how he was despatched."
