New Hong Kong Super Tall Is Finished
New Hong Kong Super Tall Is Finished
Hong Kong finally got to celebrate the completion of one of its tallest skyscrapers.
It is named Nina Towers after Nina Wong who was head of property giant Chinachem, the firm which has constructed the tower and is the 22nd tallest skyscraper in the world.
The taller of the two towers standing at 319 metres. It is located in Tsuen Wan, one of the most sophisticated districts of Hong Kong. Originally proposed back in 1993 the first design saw a single much taller tower planned but due to flight path issues it was shrunk down and turned into a two tower project.
Flight path problems were not the only problems to be encountered issues in Mrs Wong's life, namely the mysterious kidnapping of her husband who ten years later was recorded as dead although no body has ever been found led to a long drawn out court battle over who inherited her late husbands billions.
This legal wrangling slowed down construction no end and unfortunately the delays saw Mrs Wong, the prime suspect, die before seeing her namesake completed.
The taller of the towers is called Teddy Tower in "memory" of her husband and the smaller is Nina tower. Both go for a simple elegant look in design, they rise from a podium featuring its very own water feature. The taller tower stretches straight upwards to an interesting peak that curves backwards. The shorter Nina tower curves around Teddy tower in almost a protective manner, a curved sky bridge links the towers together.
The towers facades are blue glass and aluminium that relates them nicely to the water-front nearby. At night the towers are lit up against the night sky with a stunning arrangement of neon lighting which if used wrongly can look cheap but it seems the right balance has been struck with these towers.
The towers house a 800 room 5 star hotel along with apartments and office space, patrons of the hotel can make use of convention and banqueting services, outdoor and indoor swimming pools as well as spa and fitness facilities. The podium also provides shopping opportunity for visitors and the towers location close to transport links makes it a good base camp for exploring the city.
